On Friday 20 June and Saturday 21 June, in the new and
splendid Piazza Marina, designed by the archistar Fuksas, the Megale Hellas
Network which brings together associations and historical re-enactors from
Agrigento, Gela, Crotone, Metaponto, Naples and Taranto, will give life to the
first "Magna Graecia Hellenic Fest", a show of dances, music, theater
and literature that for two days will animate a real "Agora of Magna
Graecia". The evocative event, unique in its kind, will see the participation
of over 100 people including musicians and historical re-enactors in archaic
Greek historical dress; hoplites in armor and dancers, coming from Athens, in
Minoan dress to remember the deepest historical and cultural roots of the
island, which the first Greek settlers who arrived here in ancient times wanted
to call Pithekussai and from which the Civilization of Magna Graecia radiated.
The program includes opening at 8 pm on Friday 20
June, a performance of Popular Music with the Gruppo Popolare Terra e Lavoro of
Naples; the ancient ritual of the lighting of the Tripod by the ATOIS
association of Athens and followed by the presentation of the book Hybris by
Gianluca Facente who will dialogue with prof. Vincenzo Di Meglio. Immediately
afterwards a theatrical performance on the legendary Magna Graecia athletes and
heroes by the Krotoniade Guard and I Bretti. At 9:30 p.m. the show continues with
the group of ancient music and dances of the Atropos of Athens and to close the
first day, the Myths and Legends of Pithecusa by the artists of the Megale
Hellas Network.
On Saturday 21 June, the Festival continues, then,
with the presentation of the book by Caterina Luisa De Caro "Ara, the
novel of the Gurfa" and followed by the concert of the Polyphonic Choir
and Piccola Orchestra Faero, conducted by Patrizia Fanelli. At the end of the
Festival, the lighting of the Olympic Torch with the ritual in Greek of the
Atois group and symbolic embarkation of the torch itself for Naples: from
Pithecusa the "baton" of the Magna Graecia Civilization passes to the
polis Parthenope / Neapolis.
The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the
Municipality of Chalkis (Greece) and Casamicciola Terme, as well as the Italian
Philhellenic Society and the Hellenic Community of Naples.
A heartfelt thank you to the Municipality of
Casamicciola, in particular to the Mayor Giosi Ferrandino, to the Councilor
Raffaella Piro and to the Head of Cabinet Maria Funiciello for all the support
and collaboration that allow us to honor the City and the population of
Casamicciola Terme, contributing to a greater enhancement of the island
territory and its excellences also in terms of tourist attraction of the

television broadcast that will be broadcast nationally in Greece by the Elixis
network of Thessaloniki.
